Common Questions

Where do I start?

Give me a call, drop me a note and we can catch up and go through things. There are certain legalities of the day, which I mostly take care of, and a lot of fun and personality to add to the day - which is where you get to have fun.

Do you officate same sex unions?

Absolutely! It would be an honour and privilege to be there for you.

So how much do you cost?

Well, it all depends what's involved. I will cater a ceremony and package
just for you.

You may want to meet in person prior; you may need me to travel out of town
(or overseas!); you may need me to MC or assist with scripting the reception
formalities. I can do as little or as much as you need.
My standard fee is $550 incl GST, but this can be adjusted (up and down!) depending on what is needed by you. I am also able to officiate registry style weddings. These ceremonies are simple, and only possible Monday to Friday. The cost is just $90. There are a few rules and restrictions, but do touch base if this is what you're after.

Can you help me with my Naming Ceremony or a Family Funeral?

Absolutely. I can help with a naming ceremony for a baby, house or boat. Vow renewals are also a favourite of mine, and it would be an honour to be a funeral celebrant for your loved one.

How do we apply for a marriage licence?

Click on this link to learn more about the process in NZ, it is pretty quick and easy to apply. https://marriages.services.govt.nz

Do we have to write vows? Can we write our own vows?

You need vows, but don't stress - I have plenty on hand you can chop and change and we can make sure they are perfect for you. Absolutely you can write your own! But if you need a hand, I have plenty of suggestions.

How long will the ceremony go for?

Most ceremonies go for about 30 minutes, from when the bride walks down the aisle to when you leave as a married couple.

What will you wear as the celebrant?

I also ways do my best to fit in, and not clash (or match!) the bridal party. We'll talk colours prior and I'll make sure it fits in with your wedding theme.

Should I be late to the ceremony?

No. think if of your soon-to-be spouse waiting for you, as well as all the guests. It can also throw out the timing for the photographer, catering, music. You don't want to miss out on any of the day!

What about music?

You typically need three pieces of music - one to walk down the aisle to, one for when you are signing the documents, and one for when you leave.
I find it is best to choose your favourite songs - the certainly don't have to be traditional.

Will you bring the readings to the ceremony?

Absolutely. I'll have a printed copy of EVERYTHING in case your readers forget their copy.

Do we really need a back up plan?

Yes - absolutely. The last thing you need is a shower of rain (or gale) to create mayhem. It's always best to be safe than sorry (or sopping wet!)

What if it's really hot?

Our kiwi summers can get very hot. It's always a great idea to have a bit of shade, water on hand for everyone. and another reason not to leave everyone waiting too long.

We aren't really very traditional ...

A wedding does not have to be traditional. It has to be a reflection of you, and a day you will want to remember for the rest of your lives. Laughter, fun and a relaxed format is often what everyone remembers.

Do we really need a rehearsal?

It's always a good idea, but if it's logistically not possible don't worry - I'm good at prompting people at the rights times and making sure everything happens when and where it should.

We want you! We really do! But we are on a really, really tight budget...

Let's chat. I can be flexible, and would rather come up with a solution that works than you missing out on what you want. Don't forget I can also officiate registry style weddings for just $90 - only available Monday to Friday with a few restrictions.

Do you know any florists? Or photographers? Or musicians?

Absolutely. I've got plenty of great contacts and happy to recommend options for you. Have a look at my Preferred Partners page for some links.

Do you do more than one wedding a day?

No. It just makes it far too stressful. I want to make sure I'm there for you, and you get 100% of my time and energy.
